Drawing on papers presented at the 2011 Dragon Tails conference ‘Sources, Language, Approaches’ which we co-convened, Dr Kate Bagnall and I published a special issue of Journal of Chinese Overseas. Brill then approached us to expand the volume and publish it as a book. Chinese Australians: Politics, Engagement and Resistance, published in 2015, is the result.

I’ve have always felt that it is important to put back into the scholarly community that I work within. Organising the Dragon Tails conference in 2011 and then working to publish the papers presented at the conference was a lot of hard work, mostly done outside my paid hours of employment but also very rewarding.
