2018 Secrets, Silences and Sources (2nd edn)

When members of the Chinese Australian Family Historians of Victoria approached me about doing a reprint of this book I must confess I was initially reluctant. First published in 2005, the book was already well over ten years old and had been reprinted several times. I thought perhaps it was time for it to quietly retire.

But then I had cause to go back and read the volume again. I began thinking about the emergence of Chinese Australian family history in the 1970s and its more recent blossoming. I realised that our small book, and the contributions within it, had captured an important moment in that history and still had much to offer people researching their family history today.

This project has also given me the opportunity to play around with the book publishing software Bookwright and the Blurb publishing platform.
