Working with historian Dr Clare Wright and radio producer Michelle Rayner on series 2 of ABC Radio National program Shooting the Past gave me the chance to dive into a diverse range of fascinating topics and meet with some amazing people in the process. It also provided me with an opportunity to reflect on the nature of audio interviews and their role in telling stories in radio, museums and oral histories.
Each episode focuses on a historical photograph. A photograph which raises a question or might challenge or trick the viewer. Then, through a series of interviews, Clare reveals the many meanings embedded in the photograph, its place in our national history and its significance today.
These are the episodes I worked on:
- The ruins of science
- Camp Sovereignty
- All tragic to the moon
- The glide
- Roughy justice
- Alien nation
